Event Details

Increasingly ambitious CO2 reduction targets are being put forward, as a way to mitigate the impact of our activities on the climate. As a result, decarbonization solutions are required that go beyond the ones that can be implemented relatively easily. In this webinar, Engie Impact will share how carbon-neutral hydrogen is a key solution for the hard-to-decarbonize parts of our energy consumption.

Speakers

  • Niels Leemput (Engie Impact)

    Engie Impact

Niels Leemput is a technical manager at Engie Impact, and currently leads Engie Impact’s work in Australia. He bring deep technical expertise in the deployment of low carbon technologies that use the vast potential of renewable energy in Australia, through direct use and storage (electrification) and conversion to low-carbon hydrogen. He recently worked on a green hydrogen feasibility study for Yara (Pilbara) and the Greater Springfield Net Zero Roadmap.

Niels is currently Practice Leader for the ‘Techno-economic assessment & business cases’ practice at Engie Impact, where has the transversal responsibility for developing and implementing the techno-economic approach used in Engie Impact’s decarbonization roadmaps being developed for companies, cities, and territories. Many of the realized roadmaps contain a key role for hydrogen in a decarbonized world. Such roadmaps with renewable hydrogen have been developed for corporations (e.g. mining, petrochemical, aviation…), regions (North of Chile, European Union…), and organizations (city development, universities, hospitals…).

Niels joined Tractebel Engineering in 2015 as a power system engineer, after obtaining a PhD in electric engineering from the University of Leuven in Belgium. At the start of his career he participated in several grid impact studies in Belgium, Jordan, and Morocco which assessed the static and dynamic transmission grid impact of renewable energy sources, namely CHP, photovoltaic, and wind. Niels also worked on the Smart Energy Systems team of the Energy Transition department at Tractebel as an expert. There he worked on the grid integration aspects of distributed energy resources and energy storage systems, including renewable hydrogen.
